The Tall Ships Youth Trust
The Tall Ships Youth Trust, formerly The Sail Training Association, was founded in 1956. It is the world’s largest sail training charity dedicated to the personal development of young people through the crewing of our fleet. The Trust has a reputation for delivering high quality development programmes and promoting sail training internationally. Over 50 years on, the Tall Ships Youth Trust remains a world leader in the field of youth development.
Tall Ships Adventures
Tall Ships Adventures is the banner under which Tall Ships Youth Trust delivers its voyages. The initial fleet, two 37m topsail schooners Malcolm Miller and Sir Winston Churchill was replaced in 2000 by two 60m square rigged Brigs Stavros S Niarchos and Prince William. Together these vessels have sailed some 1.5M nautical miles with over 85,000 individuals on board. Tall Ships Adventures’ latest additions are four 22m round the world steel yachts, the Challenger Fleet.
Tall Ships Academy
The Tall Ships Academy is the Trust’s training and development arm. Its latest initiative is another world first for the Trust and combines the existing on board training with the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Watch Leader and MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) Yacht Rating Certificates. The programme is endorsed by both the RYA and MCA. It has 11 modules including working with young people, seamanship, navigation and code of safe working practices. Through it, young people can gain internationally recognised qualifications and if they wish to, go on to a career at sea.
Challenger Sailing
Challenger Sailing offers world class sailing events to groups and businesses on board the Challenger Fleet. It supports the Tall Ships Youth Trust’s mission by raising much needed funds to help those young people who would otherwise be excluded from sailing with the Trust.
